This paper asks how refugees' second-language learning processes are embedded in their lives host countries. To address this question, the proposes concept of trajectories. These trajectories explain as closely intertwined with learners' self-understanding, experiences and positioning Using longitudinal narrative interview data from Syrian refugees Germany, identifies three different types trajectories, that is empowerment, accommodation disinvestment. have vastly diverse outcomes, not only terms proficiency but also motivation, self-views future prospects.
